The 11-Step Process for Installing WordPress

How to Set Up WordPress

Here is a short, 11-step process for installing WordPress. This post won’t show you how to build your site from the ground up, but it will be a helpful refresher on the fundamentals you should know before diving into WordPress.

Step one is to set up WordPress. Installing WordPress on your host server is the first order of business. WordPress provides a comprehensive manual, so you shouldn’t get stuck there. You’re in luck if your web server offers a tool called Fantastico. WordPress may be set up mechanically with the help of Fantastico.

Second, sign in to the new site, which should go without saying. To get to the administration area of my WordPress site, I typically just append /wp-admin to the end of my domain name in the address bar of my web browser.

Ensure you have entered valid email addresses, as this is how you will receive new passwords and updates if you forget them. Your password needs to be specified in two different places. The initial location is in Preferences > General. Your Admin email address should also be updated in the Users section of your dashboard.

4. I recommend that all clients update their permalinks. The Permalinks option can be found in the Settings menu. To change the format of your permalinks, open that menu and make your selection. If you’re looking for perfectly streamlined URLs, I recommend switching to a custom structure and adding /%postname%/. If you do this, the URL will appear in the post’s title.

5. Give your blog a name and a slogan by updating the General Settings. The name can be anything, but it should contain your target keywords. Your site’s slogan serves as a description.

Select a theme from the several available within the WordPress administration dashboard if you intend to use one. To find a theme, go to Appearance and then Themes and utilize the search options. Once you’ve located one that suits your needs, download it and launch it.

Seventh, add any desired plugins by clicking the “Install Plugins” button. You can always install more plugins in the future if you find that you require them. Put in any plugins you feel are necessary. All-in-One SEO and XML Google Sitemaps are two tools you should incorporate without question. Both are helpful for SEO and provide excellent assistance if you have any questions. Askimet, which I would also recommend, is pre-installed.

I agree that we must activate the assignment. Askimet is a fantastic anti-spam plugin that will keep your site free of unwanted comments. You’ll start seeing spam as soon as you add stuff. Askimet can detect and prevent most comment spam on your site because of its extensive database of such comments. If it makes a mistake, you can overrule its decision for that comment, and it will improve over time. The one catch is that you’ll need a WordPress API key to do this. You must create a free WordPress.com account to obtain that API key. It’s not a big deal, but there is a little something more you should know about.

9. Look into your privacy by selecting the Privacy option under the Settings menu. If you want your blog to be accessible by anyone, click that button. If it isn’t, Google will ignore anything you’ve written.

The Widgets menu can be found under the Appearance submenu. Using the widgetized sidebars, you can extend the functionality of your WordPRess website. Choose a theme that supports widgets, and you can add as many sidebars as you like to your site. The sidebar can be customized by adding “widgets” via the widgets menu. These widgets can take the form of various things, such as a search bar, an archive, a calendar, a list of recent posts, or a blank text/html box. More widgets than that are readily available. You can find downloadable alternatives if the built-in ones don’t meet your requirements.

Eleventh, make some content: Go ahead and make some! Images, galleries of images, a “about” section, etc. You can also begin posting posts, though making some categories to store them will be helpful. The tagging system will be convenient when you have hundreds or even thousands of posts. It also facilitates search engine indexing of your site.

That’s the bare minimum to install WordPress and get going. There is much more to learn, but you’ll be glad you switched to WordPress. Best wishes with your blog!
